The Olympic 1500m silver and world bronze medallist stated that the pair were “two truly inspiring people” on her Instagram

Laura Muir has announced she will be coached by Steve Cram and Laura Weightman, marking a new chapter in her athletics career.

The 31-year-old, an Olympic 1500m silver and world bronze medallist, described the duo as “two truly inspiring people”, adding that “I have been fortunate to know both for over a decade”.

Muir previously worked under Steve Vernon, who was also the endurance performance manager at UK Athletics, for two years (2023-2024) but he’s now got a role at a shoe company.

The Brit was also coached by Andy Young for 11 years (2011-2023) but she and fellow middle distance-runner Jemma Reekie parted ways with him two years ago.

Muir now starts a new Olympic cycle with two coaches that have an abundance of experience in the sport, both on and off the track.

“I’m really excited to announce that I am being coached by Steve Cram and Laura Weightman,” she stated on her Instagram. “Two truly inspiring people, both of which I have been fortunate to know for over a decade.

“Steve, someone who has commentated on practically every major race of my career, coached Laura Weightman and ran pretty well himself over 1500m! Laura is an amazing competitor and dear friend who I raced and trained alongside for many a year. We have a few 1500m championship medals between us!”

After placing fifth in the Olympic 1500m final in Paris, Cram and Wightman will no doubt be hoping to lead Muir to a podium finish at this year’s season ending World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Muir, who was the previous British record-holder in the 1500m before Georgia Bell ran 3:52.61 at the Stade de France, clocked a best of 3:53.37 in that the same race in the French capital.

The Brit secured Olympic 1500m silver at the previous Games in Tokyo and also claimed a world bronze medal in Oregon a year later.

Muir also boasts two European 1500m titles and is a triple indoor champion over the distance, as well as her two indoor 3000m gold medals.

Even though Muir lost her national outdoor 1500m record to Bell, she still holds the indoor mark of 3:59.58.

Muir is the British record-holder in the mile (4:15.24), 1000m (2:30.82), indoor 3000m (8:26.41) and indoor 5000m (14:49.12).
