Girls Track HOKA AoW #6 – Paige Wilson, Windsor
Paige Wilson is finally back into the form she was last outdoor season when she was All New England in both the 200m and 400m. Last Friday night the Windsor sophomore popped off two big PRs winning the 55m in 7.30 and 300m in 40.72. The later race was a thrilling come from behind victory on the last straightaway over defending Class LL champion Samiya Eady of Manchester who was only two tenths of a second back.
Wilson claimed the difference in this race was her mindset. “Last week I had a horrible mental state. I had unnecessary goals in my head that I couldn’t reach and I came into the race today thinking I have to run my own race.” Her father gave her some wise advice this week to stop worrying about other people and the times will come.
Girls Field HOKA AoW #6 – Maya Quaranta, Sacred Heart Academy
Last Saturday, Maya Quaranta of Sacred Heart Academy tossed the shot put an incredible 45 feet and 5 inches at the Throwhawks Throws Party at Bloomfield High School. It was a 4 foot PR on her 6th and final throw of the competition. This puts the Yale commit in the top ten nationally and she moves ahead of Leah Moore as the 3rd best thrower in state history. Brittany Jones is only 3.25 inches in front of her, but the real prize will be breaking Tynisha McMillan’s state record of 46-11.75 set in 2006.
Boys Track HOKA AoW #6 – Dillon Stoeffler, Tolland
Dillon Stoeffler of Tolland has certainly made a name for himself as someone to watch for in the middle distance events this season as he won the 600m in a PR 1:23.99 at the UConn Invite #2 to move up to CT#4. Although his CT 6th ranked time of 2:32.90 was from earlier in the season his role as anchorman in the Eagles SMR and 4x400m relays shows his improved value this season.
Boys Field HOKA AoW #6 – Marshall Potter, Simsbury
At the Yale Invitational Chris Amy threw 63-3.75, which was better than Mel Taylor’s state record that stood for 53 years before Gary Moore broke it three years ago. Last year Tom Matlock also broke 63 feet to win New Englands. Now it seems like the floodgates have broken and last…
