This edition of “Getting to Know” features freshman multi-eventer Falyn Lott. She discusses her personal goals on the team, her favorite thing about Los Angeles, and who her biggest motivator is.
Q: What events will you be participating in for the Trojans?
F.L.: I’m a multi-eventer and a jumper.
Q: Why did you choose to come to USC?
F.L.: All the opportunities they have, the coaches, the atmosphere. It’s just the school that’s been known for winning, and I like to win.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a student athlete here?
F.L.: I would say all the support we have. I think I’ve met a lot of people that have helped me grow into a better woman, and just taught me so many things that I didn’t know before coming here. I would say, just the people and the atmosphere.
Q: Do you have any personal goals or milestones that you want to achieve this season or here at your time?
F.L.: Definitely become an NCAA All-American. Also winning the Big 10 championships is just something that’s really important to me and hopefully being a part of the Olympics in the future. Working hard is really what I’m trying to do right now.
Q: Your dad is a former University of Texas NCAA champion in track and field. Is he the motivation for you to start track and field, or is it something else?
F.L.: He definitely is my biggest motivator. He’s the one that pushed me, ever since I was eight years old, to become a track star. I would say he’s my biggest supporter. He has always helped me to get to my dreams, and I count on him for basically everything.
Q: You are also a Business Admin major here at USC. Why did you choose to go in that direction?
F.L.: I was a psychology major before, but my grandfather said that business is where the money was, so I guess I’m just following the money. Plus, I’ve always wanted to be my own business woman and be my own independent money maker. So that’s always just something that’s been interesting to me.
Q: Coming from Frisco, Texas, how would you say it differs from L.A.?
F.L.: L.A. is a lot busier. There’s a lot more of a diverse array of people. I would say that Frisco is more suburban and just kind of boring. I would say L.A. is just full of life.
