The NCCC held their Indoor Track and Field Championships on Tuesday evening at Floyd Little Athletic Center with Rockville returning to the top in sweeping both girls and boys titles. The Lady Rams defeated defending champion Suffield by a score of 121 – 86 while the guys outlasted Bolton 112 to 70.5. 

Girls Championship Highlights

The Rockville girls relied upon their depth, scoring in 13 of 15 events and scoring 36 out of a possible 40 points in the relays. Junior Melody Rowe-Cary defended her title in the 300m, running a PR of 43.46 and grabbed two silver medals in the 55m (7.62) and long jump (15-7). 

In the relays they took two wins and two runner-up finishes. The 4x200m relay made up of Charlee Carr, Piper Jones, Jeanne Kasamba and Aaliyah Tucker ran 1:57.05 with the 4x400m team of Alexia Diaz, Abigail Fisher, Gabriella Montano and Carly Wujcik finishing in 4:25.43 to earn a total of 20 points. Their teams in the 4x800m (11:57.77) and 1600m SMR (4:49.44) took home silver medals. 

Ellington’s Jenna Luoma can do it all. She was all state in cross country, Class champion in the high jump and now adds titles in the 600m and hurdles. She is the 2nd ranked high jumper in CT and won that event with a height of 5 feet, 2 inches. She also set a PR of 9.76 to win the 55m hurdles and displayed her endurance by winning the 600m with a two second PR of 1:43.65.

Taking the distance double was four-time New England cross country qualifier Stephanie Burzynski of Somers. The senior won the 1000m in a PR of 3:07.50 and 1600m finishing in 5:35.44. 

Boys Championship Highlights

Like the Lady Rams, the Rockville boys used their depth, scoring in every event but the high jump to claim the title after their runner-up finish to Suffield last year. The Rams had two individual wins with sophomore Emmett Kristoff adding to his growing impressive resume. He ran a 1:58 800m last spring as a freshman and was also NCCC champion last year in the event. On Tuesday he won the 1000m in 2:42.82, anchored the 2nd place sprint medley relay and ran a leg of the winning 4x400m with Otavio Pinto, Matthew Woodwardf and William Davis

Going over 12 feet in the pole vault for the third time this season was senior Nathan Fauteux who defended his title. He also added points in the long jump and the 55m hurdles to contribute 24 points.
