Connecticut high school athletes are slated to compete in seven events at the 117th Millrose Games at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in NY later today and Saturday. The iconic indoor track and field invitational features top quality competition at every level, with youth, high school, collegiate, professional, and masters athletes all coming together to test their limits in two days of competition on the newly renovated track facility.
Competition starting on Thursday afternoon includes the Boys’ Weight Throw that features Simbury’s Marshall Potter whose 70-3.5 toss at the Yale HS Classic in early January ranks him as US#10 this season and CT#2 all time.
Joel Barlow’s Jordan Carr has cleared 12 feet in all 5 of her meets this season while twice over the 12-6 height as she attempts to surpass Emily Savage’s state record of 12-9. Carr is currently tied at a US#10 ranking this season.
On Saturday afternoon, Torrington’s Micheal Ahoua is slated to bring his long jump ability to a field of several athletes as the US#16 with his recent 23-3.5 winning leap at the NVL Championships.
The limited field of ten competitors in the Boys HS 300m features CT#1 Sebastian Perez of Trumbull with his fastest effort thus far of 34.44 ranks him as #9 on the CT all time list.
Just before 3:00pm on Saturday the Hall boys 4x800m of Donovan Connole, Thijs Doot, Jonah Schulman, Matthew Connole look to improve upon their 8:07.47 earned at the Yale HS Classic in early January. They will contend with the likes of US#1 Saratoga Springs NY (7:50.88) and US#3 Manhasset NY (7:55.00) among a field of 13 teams.
Newtown’s Soheib Dissa returns after his 7th place last year to a quality field of competitors in the Nike Boys’ Mile at 3:30pm that brings together national leaders. With his two 4:06 efforts this season, the US#5 Dissa will face off against National champions and All-Americans including Tamrat Gavenas, the 2024 Foot Locker champion, and Charlie Vause, the 2024 Nike Cross Nationals champion along with TJ Hansen who just clocked US#3 of 4:03.87 in Boston last weekend. The stacked field also features returnees Keegan Smith of Knoxville, TN., and Alex Pelov of Montville., NJ; Smith was 6th and Pelov was 10th in the race last year.
The Nike Girls’ Mile slated for 4:28 pm includes the newly minted CT 1600m record holder Brooke Strauss of Glastonbury who reset the standard last weekend with her time…
