The Cromwell boys and Lyme Old Lyme girls repeated as Shoreline Conference Champions by much larger margins than last year. Cromwell won by a score of 142 with Haddam-Killingworth taking the runner-up spot with 82 points at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Friday Night. Like the boys, H-K took the runner-up spot with the Wildcats taking the win by a score of 127 to 92.

Dylan. Bathrick, a senior who has committed to run at Central Connecticut next year, led Cromwell by running a leg of the winning 4x800m team, winning the 1000m in 2:37.62 and returning to take 2nd in the 1600m. The Panthers had a well balanced attack, scoring in 14 of 15 events Two years ago, Cromwell was in the back half of the conference and have turned the program into a consistent winner, setting many school records in the process the past two years.

Coginchaug’s Charles Dalles and Samuel LaMalfa of Portland both broke the 14-year-old meet record held by Nainy Bah of Morgan. Dalles ran nearly a second lifetime best, breaking 36 seconds for the first time and finishing in a time of 35.95 with LaMalfa only .09 seconds behind. The Blue Devil also won the 55m hurdles in 8.11, another PR and finished off the day helping his team to a 2nd place finish in the 4x400m.

Sophomore Patrick Lynch of Lyme-Old Lyme was also a double winner, taking the long jump on his first jump with a distance of 22-7. That distance just missed the meet record by three quarters of an inch. He also won the 55m in 6.68, only a hundredth of a second off his best.

In a display of consistency, Hale Ray’s Matthew Kraszewski has been All Conference in each of the 11 seasons he has run cross county, indoor and outdoor track. He defeated future CCSU teammate Bathrick in the 1600m as they both closed in a furious finish with Kraszewski winning in 4:33.16 and Bathrick a step behind in 4:33.43.

Lyme Old Lyme Girls Repeat

Lyme Old Lyme girls hit hard and hit often to repeat as conference champions. They won nine of the 15 events, including every individual event on the track except the hurdles to pull off their 2nd consecutive championship.

The MVP of the meet was Chase Gilbert who won the 1000m (3:02.39), 1600m (5:11.66) and 3200m (11:22.21) by rather large margins. While none of her times were PRs, her performances earlier in the season make her a heavy favorite to win all three event at the Class S championships…
