Mya Strahm Selected As SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday afternoon that Tennessee freshman standout Mya Strahm was tabbed the SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week.

The rookie pole vaulter from Elmwood, Illinois, made history on Saturday at the Doc Hale VT Elite Meet, breaking the Tennessee school record in the women’s pole vault with her clearance of 4.42m (14-6) on her third attempt at the bar. The mark also shattered UT’s previous freshman record by 20 centimeters.

This season, Strahm currently ranks tied for second in the SEC and 15th in the NCAA in her signature event. Additionally, her performance ranks second among NCAA Division I freshmen this season and sits second on the World U20 top list for 2025.

Strahm is Tennessee’s first weekly conference award winner of the 2025 season. She is also the first Lady Vol to collect SEC Freshman of the Week honors since Domonique Turner was recognized on Feb. 7, 2017.
