As we finish with conference championship performance over the past week we have chosen the HOKA CT Indoor T&F Athletes of Week 8 sponsored by Marathon Sports for performances last week. In addition to the recognition each of the following award recipients will receive a commemorative t-shirt in appreciation of their performance.

Girls Track – Charlotte Moore, New Canaan

Charlotte Moore was instrumental in New Canaan’s first FCIAC win in 24 years as she took home three gold medals. She joined Lauren Casey, Gabrielle Savelli and Radea Raleva to claim the win in the 4 x 800m. Moore returned only an hour later to run the 1000m where she was content to stick behind the leaders and use a final lap kick to just nip Greenwich’s Eliana Daplyn at the line. Her time of 3:01.76 was not only her PR but the 7th fastest time in the state this season. She took advantage of the two days of rest and was able to run another PR of 11:13.31 which gave her the 4th fastest time in the state to contribute 30 points to her team’s total.

Girls Field – Liliana Quill, Amity

Liliana Quill has certainly left her mark on Amity High School. She is the school record holder in diving and the pole vault. Last Saturday at the SCC Championship, the senior who will attend Southern Connecticut next year, tied her school record and broke the meet record by a foot clearing 11-6.

Boys Track – Jayson Vanterpool, Bunnell

Jayson Vanterpool upset conference record holder Luke Richardson at the SWC championships on Monday night at Southern Connecticut. While the Bethel senior improved upon his time by .01 out of nowhere Vanterpool shattered his lifetime best, running 6.34 to take over the meet and conference record, along with the state’s best time of the year. The Bulldog who was runner-up last year at SWCs in a time of 6.72 currently holds the 6th best time in state history.

Boys Field – Michael Ahoua, Torrington

Torrington’s Michael Ahoua needed two inches to win the prestigious Millrose Games Boys Invitational Long Jump  On his final attempt he hit the board and soared 24 feet and four and a half inches to take the lead which is only 1-inch short of the CT state record by Dyshon Vaughn of Career at the New Balance Nationals Indoor that earned Vaughn a first place in March of 2018.
