Sheffield saw a number of top-class performances from teenage track and field athletes
Holly Whittaker of Aberdeen ran a UK under-17 women’s record for the 60m hurdles with 8.39 during a busy two-day programme at the England Athletics Under-20/17/15 Championships in Sheffield.
Behind, Izzy Rae of Bracknell was rewarded with the fifth fastest time of all time with 8.46.
Also in the under-17 women’s age group, Celine Obinna-Alo, aged 14 and coached by Richard Kilty, won the 60m in 7.38 to go equal second on the UK all-time under-17 rankings with Jodie Williams and just behind Asha Philip’s 7.35.
Shivelle Marshall was runner-up in 7.51 with Leila Lihe third in 7.51.

Lawson Capes, grandson of the late Geoff Capes, won the under-17 men’s shot with 18.59m to move to No.3 on the UK all-time rankings in his age group.
Plymouth youngster Annabelle Fasuba, the daughter of 2008 world indoor 60m champion Olusoji Fasuba, won the under-15 girls’ 60m in 7.53.
Sprinters continued to shine in the under-20 men’s 60m as Teddy Wilson won a very close race in 6.74 from Matthew Smart.
Thea Brown, a combined events specialist, showed great mid-winter form in the long jump to win the under-20 women’s title with 6.24m.

Shaikira King also stepped away from the cross-country circuit to run a championship best of 2:04.34 in the under-20 women’s 800m.
There was also a championship record in the under-20 men’s 800m as Iolo Grant clocked 7.59.
