Nottingham Trent University is launching a Female Athlete Development Program (FADP) this year. This is an initiative where female athletes will be selected on to a program and receive important research-informed education from NTU experts on aspects surrounding athletic performance such as nutrition, sleep, menstrual cycles and appropriate training loads.

Once in the FADP, over the following 12 months, the athletes will be able to access the University performance facilities and receive consultations as and when required, such as the environmental chamber, performance testing, biomechanics assessments and strength and conditioning.

There is an initial launch day on March 1 and the plan is to enrol around 10 female athletes aged 13-30, with further expansion in 2026.

As part of the FADP, each athlete has access to £300 to support with travel for them and their family/coaches to NTU, and they will also receive some kit, store vouchers, nutritional products and a supply of Maurten as part of the package.

Jess Piasecki, the organiser, 2:22 marathon runner and Associate Professor of Female Physiology at NTU, says: “This has been a project burning in the back of my mind for quite some time. Great to see it come to life! Hoping to provide a little bit of inspiration where I can, as many a female athlete inspired me over the years!”
