After exciting competition in the recent conference championships, state athletes now look to improve their performances to attain team and individual honors in the CIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in the M, LL, S, and L classes this week.
CIAC Class Championship competition starts on Thursday 2/13 with Class M at 4:30pm at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in Hillhouse High School in New Haven. The competition continues Friday with Class LL in the afternoon at 4:30pm. The championship competition resumes with Class S on Saturday morning at 10:00 am concluding with Class L on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm. All meets are slated to start track and field events simultaneously.
Athletes will compete for individual and team honors as well as for the opportunity to qualify for the CIAC State Open Championships on Saturday, 2/22/2025 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center starting at 12:00pm.

Events to Watch
Good sprint coaches take fast kids and teach them to jump or hurdle and that is exactly what Bloomfield has done this season. The WarHawks have developed three solid hurdlers which could bring them a pile of points in this one event. Delante Senior is the top seed at 7.47 and is only .05 seconds off Rodrigo Souza’s 15 year-old Class S record. The 12th grader will be supported by juniors Shaun Lazenby and Jessie Singleton Jr. who are also under 7.9. Only Derby’s Jaylen Titus is under that mark with the potential to break up the trio at the finish line.
Cromwell already has a great deal to be proud of this season after they have been updating their school record board almost weekly. They could potentially break several records in this meet including the Class M record in the 4x800m. The Panthers have already run 8:14.65 on the Hillhouse track at the SCC Invite which is below Valley Regional’s record of 8:17.76 from 2009. Or they could after individual events where Nassyr Andrade is the top seed in the 600m and Dylan Bathrick is the defending champion and top seed in the 1000m.
Sophomore Patrick Lynch of Lyme Old Lyme is a name to watch in the coming years. His best jump of the season is only one inch off Josh Founier’s 24 year-old Class M record of 23-3.5 and he is also the best long jumper in the nation for 10th graders. If you are in the bleachers, look down…
