It’s almost time for the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships – and Great Britain & Northern Ireland have plenty of reasons to be both excited and optimistic, as they are in a pretty good place right now.

In recent years, the team has performed incredibly well and the potential across the roster is impressive. There’s nothing quite as thrilling as cheering a British athlete sprinting to the finishing line, leaving the others in their wake – and watching them stand on the podium as the national anthem plays out in the background.

Here, we’re going to look at what events we think the team will focus on in the upcoming competition – and how well we think they’ll do!

Middle-Distance Events

Brits have always been pretty good at middle-distance running – names like Dame Kelly Holmes and Steve Ovett will go down in history as some of the best… and now we’ve got the golden girl herself, Keely Hodgkinson, along with other top athletes who are all set to continue this trend

Not only that but you could wager on this selection with one of the sports betting promotions that you receive on sign-up.

She struggled in second for a while – and was disappointed with her silver medal at the 2023 World Championships. However, Mary Moraa, the woman who bested her in that race, could only sit back and watch in awe (along with the rest of us) as Hodgkinson blazed to glory, winning gold at the Paris Olympics in 2024 – leaving her opponents eating her dust.

Unsurprisingly, these incredible performances have made her the favourite in this event. We don’t think she’ll just get gold this time, but we’re also expecting her to break the indoor 800m world record – and really set her name in stone in the world of middle-distance running.

1500 Metres

We also have to mention Josh Kerr, one half of the most exciting rivalries in modern athletics. When he goes head-to-head with Jakob Ingebrigtsen, no one knows what will happen (in fact, they could be so interested in each other that they let themselves be overtaken on the inside and both…
