In another busy day before the State Open on Saturday we want to thank our fans for all their responses in balloting for the HOKA CT Indoor T&F Athletes of Week 9 sponsored by Marathon Sports for performances in the Class meets. In addition to the recognition each of the following award recipients will receive a commemorative t-shirt in appreciation of their performance.
Girls Track HOKA AoW #9 – Sultana Ali, New Britain
Sultana Ali has been on the rise as the middle distance runner for New Britain that culminated in her victory in the Class LL race in a personal best time of 1:38.26. The CCC 600m champion also is a key component of the Hurricanes sprint medley relay that is the 9th seed at the Open and 4x400m relays as their reliable anchor this season. Ali, who is ranked as the #4 Open seed in the 600m, received 189 votes to earn the HOKA Athlete of Week 9 Track honor.
Girls Field HOKA AoW #9 – Bryanna Boroze, East Hartford
East Hartford’s Bryanna Boroze claimed the Class LL title last week with a toss of 38-9.975 that ranks her as the #3 seed for the Open on Saturday. While hovering around the 39 foot mark the past few weeks, Boroze is hoping to regain the form that helped her propel the shot 41-2.25 in December that earned her a personal best. She received 169 votes to earn the HOKA Athlete of Week 9 Field honor.
Boys Track HOKA AoW #9 – William Gibson, Hillhouse
The hurdles are really shaping as one of the marquee events of 2025. At the Class L meet four boys broke 7.70 which is very deep but William Gibson of Hillhouse was head and shoulders above the rest, breaking a record co-held by Aaron Haynes and Jerome Harris that was first set 31 years ago. Gibson’s winning time of 7.45 tied Marvin Escalera of Windsor for the state lead and they both hold the 5th best time in state history. Gibson received 152 votes to earn the HOKA Athlete of Week 9 Track honor.
Boys Field HOKA AoW #9 – Oliver Guzy, Xavier
