The Kenyan distance runner faces a potential ban for the presence/use of prohibited substances
Brimin Misoi Kipkorir, winner of the 2024 Sydney and 2022/2023 Frankfurt Marathon, has received a provisional suspension for a doping violation.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced Kipkorir was suspended due to the presence of EPO and furosemide, which are prohibited substances and the suspension will remain in effect until his case is resolved.
The AIU said in a statement: “The AIU has provisionally suspended Brimin Misoi Kipkorir (Kenya) for the presence/use of prohibited substances (EPO, furosemide). This sample was collected out of competition on 22 November 2024.”

Most recently, Kipkorir won the Sydney Marathon in September 2024 as he clocked a course record time of 2:06.18.
The 35-year-old’s fastest time over the 26.2 mile distance comes from when he won the Frankfurt Marathon in 2023, crossing the line in 2:04.53. This was the second time he claimed the title in Germany after taking the win the year prior, in 2022.
On the current marathon world rankings, he sits in 26th place behind fellow Kenyan Bethwel Kibet.
The last event Kipkorir has competed in was the Taipei Marathon in December – after the sample was collected from AIU. He won the event with a time of 2:11:41.
Organisers of the event had said Kipkorir would receive $67,500 for his victory, as well as Ethiopia’s Amid Foyza Jemal who was the first female.
He also finished 13th in the 2023 Tokyo Marathon which saw Deso Gelmisa take the win.
