Moderators Greg Huffaker OR Randy Anderson:  Hello, and welcome to another addition of Illinois Top Times Podcast. Our mission at Illinois Top Times is to produce a premier indoor championship meet for athletes and coaches that will help promote collegiate recruiting and future participation from Illinois high school athletes.

The goal of the Podcast is to provide some resources to help athletes and coaches learn from the best in our sport. Today, I have the pleasure of talking with Boo Schexnayder, the Strength and Conditioning Coach at LSU.

Coach Boo is one of the world’s foremost authorities in track and field. Some of his coaching highlights include one World Champion, one Olympic Silver Medalist, seven Olympians, ten individual NCAA Champions who have won 19 NCAA Team Track and Field titles, well over 50 All-Americans, 17 individual SEC Champions and a mind-boggling 42 Team SEC titles.

His athletes that he’s coached currently hold 11 LSU school records. Additionally, he has served as Chair of the Coaching Education Committee for USATF, and in 2009 created the Track and Field Academy, the educational branch of the USTFCCCA. He has a passion and a (broad) way of communicating and educating future coaches and sharing that information to help USA Track and Field and World Track and Field be the best that it can possibly be.

So, Coach Boo, thank you so much for taking some time to talk with us today.

Boo Schexnayder:  My pleasure. Happy to be here.

Obviously, your success in the jumps is unprecedented.

But one of the things that we really wanted to focus in on today is some 400-meter training.

Boo Schexnayder:  Mm-hm.

(Crosstalk)

Boo Schexnayder:  Yes, of course, I’ve coached it – one time or another – I’ve coached every track and field event at some level, and, like, I was, I actually had a life in track. I guess, all of my nice things I’ve did at LSU, but I…
