Brackins Jr. Earns Third Big Ten T&F Weekly Honor

Track & Field | February 26, 2025

USC hurdler Johnny Brackins Jr. was named Big Ten Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week today (Feb. 26), after breaking his school record and setting the Big Ten record in the 60m hurdles.

The senior Brackins Jr. earned the bronze medal in the men’s 60m hurdles final at the USATF Indoor Championships on Feb. 22 with a personal-best, school-record, Big Ten-record and NCAA-leading time of 7.43.  He reached the finals by running a then PR of 7.44 to lead all athletes in the first round earlier in the day.  Both times made Brackins Jr. the fourth-leading all-time collegiate performer in the 60m hurdles, trailing only Grant Holloway (Florida, 7.35), Trey Cunningham (Florida State, 7.38) and Daniel Roberts (Kentucky, 7.41).

The previous Big Ten record in the 60m hurdles was 7.47 run by Wisconsin’s Reggie Torian in 1997.  Brackins Jr. entered action at the USATF Indoor Championships with a personal-best of 7.48 set at the Tiger Paw Invitational on Feb. 14.

The Bowerman Watch List athlete earned his first Big Ten weekly honor when he was named Co-Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 22 for originally setting the USC 60m hurdles record with a time of 7.49 at the Spokane Sports Showcase on Jan. 17 and then won again on Feb. 17 for breaking the then-USC record with a time of 7.48 at the Tiger Paw Invitational.
