Badgers earn podium finishes in day one of Big Ten Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The Wisconsin women’s track and field team secured podium finishes from Chloe Lindeman, Shea Ruhly and the DMR at the first day of Big Ten Indoor Championships in Indianapolis on Friday, Feb. 28.

Lindeman finished with bronze in the weight throw with a heave of 73 feet, 3 ¼ inches (22.33m), tallying the lone top-3 showing from Wisconsin in Friday’s action.

Ruhly got things started with a fifth-place finish in the 5000 meters competition. The Middleton native turned in a time of 16 minutes, 13.02 seconds.

The Badgers’ DMR finished in seventh place and provided two points with the combination of Mya Bunke, Emma Kelley, Emma Kruse and Leane Willemse. Those four finished with a combined time of 11:11.55 to finish the night on the track.

Bunke was the first Badger on the women’s side to qualify for Saturday’s championship races, as the senior put together a quality showing in the mile once again. Bunke ran a 4:42.17, inserting herself in sixth place amongst the field. The top-8 will battle tomorrow in Indianapolis.

After winning the individual championship last year, Kiley Robbins made her way back to the 60-meter dash finals on Friday, as the Milwaukee native cruised to a 7.31-second time—finishing in seventh in the trials.

Kelley was the third individual to qualify for tomorrow’s races, as the standout in the middle distance finished sixth overall in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.14.

Up Next: The Badgers are back at it Saturday morning in Indianapolis, as they will take on day two of the Big Ten Indoor Championships. The meet is scheduled to start at 9:15 a.m. CT and will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
