Gamecock Track & Field Closes out Indoor Season at NCAA Championship – University of South Carolina Athletics

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 13, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field is set to close out the indoor season this weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championship in Virginia Beach, Va. The two-day meet will begin with a slew of semifinals events on Friday, followed by finals on Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Meet Information
Friday will feature mostly prelim events, while Saturday will be heavy with finals. The top eight scorers in each event will result in points for their teams in the following format (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1). All-American statuses will be up for grabs this weekend. First Team All-American status is awarded to finishers 1-8 (individual and relays), while Second Team All-American is given to those who finish 9-16 (individual and relays). Athletes must have a valid mark to earn All-American status. Those who do not finish a race, no height, foul three attempts or are disqualified will not be eligible for All-American status if no other valid mark from a previous round exists.

Gamecock Lineup
The women will line up first tomorrow with Zaya Akins opening the meet at 4 p.m. in the women’s 400m semifinals. She will then be followed by JaMeesia Ford and Jayla Jamison in the 200m semifinals at 5:02 p.m. Anthony Greenhow will close out Friday’s action in the men’s 200m semifinals at 8:32 p.m.

Saturday the Gamecocks look to compete in six events total, beginning with Cheyla Scott in the women’s high jump at noon. The first track event for South Carolina would be the women’s 400m finals at 3:20 p.m. and the women’s 200m finals at 3:50 p.m. The women’s 4x400m relay finale will close out the women’s portion of the meet at 4:20 p.m. with the Gamecocks competing in the third and final heat. For the men, veteran throwers CJ Licata and Dylan Targgart will compete in the shot put finals at 5 p.m., followed by Greenhow in the men’s 200m finals at 6:50 p.m.

No Strangers to Success
The Gamecocks were led by JaMeesia Ford at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championship as the star freshman captured a gold medal in both the 200m and the 4x400m relay. Ford earned a pair of First Team All-American nods and looks to repeat in 2025…
