RALEIGH, N.C. – Tennessee graduate student Zach Jaeger had UT’s top performance of the opening day at the Raleigh Relays, turning in a time of 8:44.52 in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase to finish 10th at the meet on Thursday at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility.
Jaeger made his first outdoor appearance for the Vols in Raleigh, and his time ranked the Peachtree City, Georgia, native No. 9 on UT’s all-time list. His mark ranks 11th nationally early in the 2025 outdoor season and was the fastest time by a Vol in the event since Olympian Anthony Famiglietti set a college-best time of 8:25.37 in 2000.
Freshman standout Gavin Genisio was the Vols’ top finisher in the 1,500-meter on Thursday with a time of 3:43.74, shattering his high school PR by nearly 10 seconds. His mark is the fastest by an NCAA Division I freshman this outdoor season.
The night wrapped up with graduate transfer Yonas Haile making his track debut for the Big Orange in the first heat of the men’s 10k, finishing with a time of 30:34.17.
The meet continues Friday with 14 Tennessee athletes set to compete – beginning at 2:50 p.m. with three Vols in the men’s 400-meter dash and concluding at 10:35 p.m. with three Lady Vols in the women’s open 10,000-meter run.
