CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Seven Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes from five different institutions were tabbed as ACC Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week for the second week of the 2025 Outdoor Track & Field season. Virginia led the way with three selections, while Florida State, NC State, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech had one each.
In his season opener, Virginia’s Gary Martin ran the third-fastest 1,500-meter time in collegiate history on his way to being tabbed the ACC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. Martin’s time of 3:33.71 broke the ACC record and was below the previous collegiate record and finished in third place at the Raleigh Relays. He entered the outdoor season after breaking the NCAA Record in the indoor 1500m with his time of 3:33.41.
Virginia’s Margot Appleton was named the ACC Women’s Outdoor Co-Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 1,500-meter competition at the Raleigh Relays. Her time of 4:05.68 was the fourth-fastest collegiate time ever recorded. Her time ranks second in Virginia history and leads both the ACC and NCAA this season.
Appleton shared the ACC Women’s Outdoor Co-Track Athlete of the Week honors with NC State’s Grace Hartman, who posted the fourth-fastest collegiate time in history in the 10,000-meter run. Hartman took an early lead in the race and maintained it for the duration before crossing the finish line in 31:20.60, which broke the ACC, NC State, meet and facility records in the process.
In the Raleigh Relays men’s hammer throw competition, Virginia’s Jeremiah Nubbe threw 73.04 meters (239-7) to win the competition and earn ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors. His mark ranks second in Virginia history, first in the ACC this season and fourth nationally. Nubbe’s mark would have led the ACC throughout the 2024 season and would have ranked eighth nationally.
On her way to being named the ACC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, Virginia Tech’s Lyndsey Reed cleared 4.37 meters (14-4) in the pole vault at the Texas Relays, which leads the ACC this season and ranks 10th in the NCAA in 2025. Her mark ranks sixth all-time in Virginia Tech history and would’ve been tied for the top mark in the ACC throughout 2024.
