Badgers wrap up day one in California


STANFORD, Calif. – The Wisconsin women’s track and field program was paced by Leané Willemse on Friday night in California, as the Mequon native turned in the sixth-fastest time in the 5000 meters in UW’s Outdoor Track history. 

Willemse completed the race in 15 minutes, 47.05, which proved to be just over two seconds faster than her prior personal best that was set last season. The senior finished in 14th place in the invitational race. 

Mya Bunke and Emma Kruse each finished with personal bests in the 1500 meters, covering the distance in 4:22.98 and 4:31.12, respectively. 

Shea Ruhly ran in the second-fastest section of the 5000 meters at the Cobb Track and Angell Field, placing 13th with a time of 16:03.47.
