STANFORD, Calif. –

The outdoor season picked up speed for the Husky track squad today on day one of the two-day Stanford Invitational. Washington’s throwers, jumpers, and distance runners saw their first action of the outdoor campaign, with eight new top-10 marks already entering into the records.

Distance Events

In her first race since taking sixth in the NCAA Indoor mile final, Chloe Foerster ran away and hid from the field in the top heat of the women’s 1,500-meters. Foerster dominated, winning by nearly seven full seconds, as she lowered her PR to a time of 4:07.32, improving her No. 2 mark in school history. That is No. 4 in the NCAA so far this outdoor season.

Also in the top heat, Maggie Liebich ran 4:14.46 and Claire Yerby came through in 4:16.81. Stephanie Driscoll got her first official mark since joining the Dawgs, as she went 4:19.36.

On the men’s side, Ronan McMahon-Staggs, Rhys Hammond, and Martin Barco all finished side by side in the top men’s heat in the 3:41 range. McMahon-Staggs, sixth in the men’s mile final to match Foerster, was fourth today in 3:41.13, Hammond ran a PR of 3:41.27, and Barco went 3:41.30. In an earlier heat, Kyle Reinheimer won his section in 3:43.21.

Mia Cochran and Julia David-Smith moved into the Husky top-10 list in the 5k. Cochran had a 17-second PR of 15:40.96, going to No. 7 in school history, and David-Smith went to No. 9 with a time of 15:44.39, a 13-second outdoor best. In the men’s 5k, Ben MacMillan led the way in 14:08.25.

New to the steeplechase, redshirt freshman Isaac Briggs made a splash, going 8:52.06 for a very solid steeple debut.
