Foerster Dominates Again With 800m NCAA Leader

STANFORD, Calif. – For the second day in a row, Chloe Foerster dominated the field at the Stanford Invitational and clocked a new PR, this time taking over the No. 1 spot in the NCAA outdoors at 800-meters. UW also had wins from Sofia Cosculluela in the 100m hurdles, Scott Toney in the pole vault, and Ashley Schroeder in the javelin to finish up in the Bay Area.

Distance Events

Foerster had ran away from the 1,500m field on Friday to win by nearly seven seconds in a PR of 4:07.32. She doubled back in the 800-meters today and won by over three seconds, going 2:00.52 to lower her PR with the fastest time in the NCAA this season. It’s the No. 3 mark in school history, but the fastest time ever run in-season by a Husky as the two faster times came during the summer.

Also in the 800-meters today, Maggie Liebich ran 2:05.95 and the men had Martin Barco take second in the top heat in 1:50.49 and Justin O’Toole ran 1:51.02.

Throws Events

Ashley Schroeder opened up her season by smashing her PR in the javelin throw and winning the collegiate section. She first had a PR in the second round with a mark of 152-10, but she then went well beyond that in round five, going 158-3. That breaks her into the top-10 in school history in the No. 10 spot.

Yvonne Colson had a discus PR of 151-1. Freshmen Chiche Okemgbo threw 127-10 and Erin Walters went 120-7 in the discus. Okemgbo went 118-0 in the hammer and Walters threw 111-0.

Jump Events

Washington’s trio of men’s triple jumpers all went over 50-feet in the same meet for the first time today. Roman Hutchinson got a PR of 50-2 ½, Trevontay Smith went 50-1 ¾, and Tim Luebbert jumped 50-1 ¼. Rachel Bir leaped 38-11 ¾ in the women’s triple jump.

Scott Toney won the pole vault going 17-7, winning the tiebreak with former Husky Max Manson. Senior Mathis Bresko was third overall clearing 17-3.

Multi-Event Athletes

Sofia Cosculluela got her first official collegiate victory as the Spanish heptathlon champion won the 100-meter hurdles today in 13.58 seconds. That moves her up to No. 7 in Husky history in that event.

Sprint Events

There was little sprinting on the schedule today, with just Danielle Hunter racing in the 100-meters final. She was sixth in 12.01 as the field ran into a -1.8 headwind.
