PHILADELPHIA – The Wisconsin women’s track and field program competed in three separate meets on Wednesday, earning multiple podium finishes to kick off the weekend of action from across the country.
Zinter finishes strong at Drake Relays
Shaina Zinter emerged as the top collegiate finisher in the heptathlon at the 115th edition of the Drake Relays—notching a second-place finish overall in Des Moines with 5261 points.
Zinter’s highlight of Thursday was a first-place finish in the javelin, as the St. Paul, Minnesota native earned a mark of 127 feet, five inches (38.85m), nearly 14 feet further than her mark at the 44 Farms Team Invitational just a couple of weeks ago.
She capped off her day with a runner-up effort in the 800 meters to wrap up the seventh event of the heptathlon, turning in a time of 2:13.96 on the blue oval at historic Drake Stadium.
Kyla Saleh finished in sixth place overall in the heptathlon—ending the two-day stint with her highest mark of her outdoor career at 4830 points.
Lindeque earns top-10 mark in discus at Texas Invitational
Two Badgers finished in the top-10 of the discus in the nightcap of the Texas Invitational, as Zonica Lindeque notched a top-10 heave in UW’s Outdoor Track history.
Lindeque continued her strong performances with a mark of 170-7 (52.00m), good for seventh all-time at Wisconsin. She finished in fifth overall, as Taylor Kesner followed in sixth place by finishing at 169-8 (51.73m).
Finger opens Penn Relays in 1500 meters
In Philadelphia, Kylie Finger was the lone Badger in action on Thursday, as she finished in 20th in the 1500 meters in 4:19.95. That time was Finger’s fastest of her career—slicing off just under two seconds from her previous personal best.
Up Next: The Badgers are back in action tomorrow afternoon at the Penn Relays and the Texas Invitational. Multiple throwers will be competing in Austin, Texas, while the women’s distance medley relay will make its first appearance of the season in Philadelphia.
