Cade Gray’s Pole Vault Win Headlines Day 1 At Louisville’s Clark Wood Invitational


LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tennessee redshirt junior Cade Gray picked up his second event crown in as many weeks, clearing a personal-best 5.51 meters (18-1) to win the men’s invitational pole vault at the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational. His victory highlighted 12 field athletes competing on Friday at the University of Louisville.
 
The Oclawaha, Florida, native moved up to sixth on the NCAA Division I list for the 2025 outdoor season. His performance also tied teammate Evan Puckett and former Vol Rocky Danners at No. 8 on UT’s all-time outdoor top 10.
 
Gray was one of four Tennessee athletes to deliver an outdoor PB on Friday. True freshman Jakob Alperin led off the meet in the men’s shot put with a first-place heave of 16.96m (55-7.75), improving his lifetime PR by more than 20 centimeters. Additionally, Blake Sifferlin (5.36m / 17-7) and Donna Douglas (15.65m / 51-4.25) each set outdoor PRs in the men’s pole vault and women’s shot put, respectively.
 
Friday’s competition wrapped up with the collegiate division of the men’s javelin, which saw UT sophomore Tyler Arnold battle harsh conditions en route to a first-place finish with a toss of 56.72m (186-1).
 
Full results from Friday can be accessed via DC Timing. Tennessee rounds out the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. with Flight A of the men’s high jump and concluding at 5 p.m. with the collegiate division of the men’s discus.
