NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt Track and Field will end its outdoor regular season at home when the Commodores host the Music City Challenge Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Outdoor Track.
Competing teams include Alabama A&M, Austin Peay, Belmont, Brescia, Central Arkansas, Evansville, Furman, Garden State Track Club, Jacksonville State, Life University, Lindenwood, Lipscomb, Midway, MTSU, Murray State, SCAD-Atlanta, SIUE, Southeast Community College, Stillman, Tennessee, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, UT-Martin, Vanderbilt, Vincennes and Xavier.
The Dores had a weekend off after their three-meet weekend at Mt. SAC Relays, the Georgia Tech Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational. On the west coast, the Vanderbilt multis turned in several event PRs, highlighted by Devyn Parham’s 100-meter hurdles performance. She clocked 13.95 seconds, which ranks eighth in school history.
At the Georgia Tech Invitational, Vandy student-athletes recorded six event wins and added eight marks to program all-time top 10 lists. Allyria McBride, currently ranked fifth in the SEC, top 15 in the NCAA, won the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 56.32 seconds. Santana Spearman won her second 100-meter hurdles race of the season, turning in a personal-best time of 13.29 seconds to move to No. 2 on the Dores’ all-time performers list.
On the men’s side, Michael Skora won the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 14:25.85, which is also the No. 2 mark in Vandy history. Three more Dores, Dylan Ballard, David Song and Mitchel Drees, also added marks to the program’s all-time top 10 in the 5k. In the 1,500 meters, Brady Bliven moved to second in school history with a time of 3:45.07, which is also a personal best.
The Music City Challenge will be the Commodores’ last meet before the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be May 15-17 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Friday’s field events begin around 11 a.m. with the javelin throw. Running events are slated to start at 5 p.m. with the 100-meter hurdles invite prelims.
The program will honor its nine graduating student-athletes, Tina Benzinger, Max Blader, Gigi Clifford, Ella Escobar, Cameron Fawcett, Zach Hodges, Ella Lambert, Julia Rosenberg and Ellie Wolski, Saturday at 12:30 p.m. before running events start at 1 p.m.
