WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Jadin O’Brien captured first place in each event to earn her first ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the heptathlon to highlight day two of the event on Friday.
O’Brien finished first in the long jump (6.16m), javelin (40.42m), and 200m (2:11.82) to post a collective score of 6,220 to earn the ACC Outdoor heptathlon championship. She is the first Notre Dame track and field athlete to win the heptathlon. The score set a new meet record, which had stood since 2015. Alaina Brady captured second place in the heptathlon with a personal-best score of 5,751 after finishing second in the long jump (5.96m) and third in both the javelin (35.64m) and 200m (2:14.46). Ellis Weekley placed seventh with a personal-best score of 5,062 over the two-day competition.
On the men’s side, CJ Singleton posted a season-best time of 8:42.41 in the 3000m steeplechase to claim second place and earn All-ACC First Team honors. Cameron Todd, meanwhile, continued his stellar freshman season with a seventh place finish in the steeplechase with a time of 8:56.47. Yoosang Kim had a 17.51m effort in the shot put to place eighth at the championships.
Heading into the final day of competition on Saturday, the Irish women sit in third with a team score of 38 while the men hold seventh with a score of 17. Competition begins at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow at Wake Forest University.
