LEXINGTON, Ky. – Vanderbilt track and field student-athletes combined to score 12 points at the SEC Outdoor Championships Thursday to Saturday, adding seven marks to the program record books along the way.
“As this conference and the NCAA keep evolving, we, at Vanderbilt, are evolving,” director of cross country and track and field Althea Thomas said. “It was very special to see our seniors, those who we’ve had here for four years and those who have transferred in and believed in the product we have been putting out. It was a really good meet and a really good showing in reference to how we’re showing up.”
The Commodores’ 4×100-meter relay of Ella Escobar, Tina Benzinger, Joy Moorer and Josie Donelson clocked a season-best time of 45.20 seconds to move into the No. 3 spot on the program all-time top 10 list.
Julia Rosenberg finished 10th in the 1,500 meters final with a time of 4:24.64.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Allyria McBride earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 57.29 seconds scoring four points for the Vanderbilt.
The Dores ended the weekend with a scoring performance in the 4×400-meter relay. Moorer, Donelson, Madyson Wilson and McBride finished eighth with a season-best time of 3:35.86, which is ranked fourth in program history.
Qualifiers for the NCAA East First Round will be announced next week, and the regional meet will be May 29 and 31 in Jacksonville, Florida.
