METAMORA – Already the owner of Lincoln High School’s 110-meter high hurdle record, Parker Campbell sliced 18 hundredths of a second from Clint Bartman’s 1992 school record in the 300 intermediate hurdles to advance from the Class 2A Metamora Sectional on Wednesday (May 21, 2025).

In the May 15 Central State 8 Conference Meet, Campbell clocked 14.34 seconds to break Tony Dallavalle’s 2005 high hurdle school record of 14.48. His 39.65 for second in the 300 hurdles on Wednesday qualified him for the May 30-31 state meet in Charleston.

Competing in an off-and-on drizzle with temperatures in the low 50s, Campbell won the high hurdles in 14.60 and later destroyed his previous best of 40.14 in the 300s.

Wearing a left wrist brace due to a recent hurdling crash, Campbell was among 21 area individuals and six relays to advance by placing in the top two or by meeting a qualifying standard.

“My legs were cold,” confessed Campbell after the high hurdles. “This was, I think, my second worse race of the year. I tried to take a little bit of extra time to warm up. I qualified for state. That was the goal today.

“I’ll get my PR (personal record) at state. The goal is to win. I’ll need to run a better time than I did today to get that, but I’m glad I made it.”

In the 300 hurdles, only Mahomet-Seymour’s Travis Hoffman (38.95) was faster than Campbell. Hoffman led the Bulldogs to victory in the 16-team meet with 112 points followed by Morton (109) and Metamora (87).

Eureka finished fourth (70) while advancing six individuals and one relay. Prairie Central was sixth (59), advancing five men and three relays. Seventh-place Normal University High (56) qualified five individuals and one relay. Lincoln was eighth (37) while qualifying two individuals and a relay. Olympia was 14th (10) and advanced one individual.

Prairie Central fans were treated to fireworks from their 800 relay of Kolton Wright, Collin Kilgus, Caiden Schulz, and Wyatt Ault, who won in 1:28.74 to break their school record of 1:29.94 set earlier this year. Their time qualified them for the June 19-22 New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia.

“We’ve got just a slew of sprinters this year,” said Coach Joe Sieving. “They’ve really stepped it up.”

The Hawks also advanced second in the 400 relay in 42.61 with Tagen Fehr, Wright, Schulz, and Ault. Earlier this season, they ran a school…
