This week in Athletics we have ground breaking British performances at the Paris Diamond League and Faith Kipyegon’s historic 4-minute Mile attempt.

Faith Kipyegon Set For Showdown with History.

Kenyan Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon will attempt to become the first woman to break the 4‑minute mile on June 26 in Paris. Currently, her PB is 4:07.64.

The 1500m World Record holder has created a documentary with Box to Box films the creators of the ‘SPRINT’ Netflix series which followed the likes of Noah Lyles and Gabby Thomas. 

The event will be livestreamed on Nike’s YouTube channel with the documentary having been picked up and now showing on Prime Video.

 

“This is about more than just the clock,” she said “It’s about believing — in yourself, in the process, and in the power of inspiring others. From the days I used to run barefoot as a young girl, to now stepping into these stadiums, that belief has carried me.”

 

 

Hunt Hits New Height in the French Capital

British sprinter Amy Hunt has continued to build on her impressive season with a second place finish in the Women’s 200m at the Paris Diamond League on Friday. 

The Olympic relay Silver medalist clocked a seasons best time of 22.45 behind the seemingly unbeatable Anavia Battle who continues her dominance over the event in the seasons Diamond League. Hunt finished ahead of the likes of 2019 World Champion Dina Asher-Smith (22.81) and last season’s Diamond League champion Brittany Brown (22.77).

The result was Hunt’s best 200m performance since taking out the U18 world record of 22.42 which also became the British U20 record. 

Following Friday’s race which marked her best performance over the distance since that race 6 years ago. Speaking to Athletics Weeks following the race Hunt said “We came in here with two goals, one was to get the (World Championships) standard” “Secondly, we agreed that this race the calibre was that of a Worlds Semi Final, you have to come top two” “I beat some very good names, beat a lot of people above me in the rankings” “I think it’s shown I’m competitive”

Mills Continues Record Run

George Mills wrote his name into the British Middle Distance History Books last week when he knocked 7 seconds off of Sir Mo Farah’s 5000m record in Oslo. On Friday Mills continued his dominance clocking the second fastest time in British history over 1500m with a time of 3:28.36.
