The legacy of the American runner, Steve Prefontaine is the NIKE Pre Classic. It is also, in my mind, the litmus test with which some keen observers view NIKE’s allegiance to the sport and business of running.

The two world records, Women’s 5,000m and Women’s 1,500m, plus some close ones, like the women’s steeplechase and a brilliant Bowerman mile, plus two strong shot puts, a Wr attempt at the pole vault for men show that four hours of track and field, with a near SRO crowd in the house that Phil and Penny Knight built can rock the world of athletics proverbial socks off.
