COLUMBIA, S.C. (July 16, 2025) – For the second consecutive season, Dylan Targgart has been tabbed as a College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American.
Targgart, the 2024 Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, returns to the First Team with a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average in his Master’s of Business Administration program.
The Coldwater, Mich. native earned a pair of First Team All-American nods during the indoor and outdoor season, competing in the shot put. During the indoor campaign, the veteran thrower finished fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championship with a season-best distance of 19.74m (64-9.25). He also placed fourth at the SEC Indoor Championship in College Station, Texas. Targgart’s final outdoor season saw a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore., throwing 19.48m (63-11). He was able to also score at the SEC Outdoor Championship, finishing fourth overall with a season-best throw of 19.55m (64-1.75).
Targgart’s career includes four First Team All-American nods, a pair of All-SEC appearances and two SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. An example of competing on the field and in the classroom, he has now been named First Team All-Academic for two consecutive years and has also been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in each of his last four seasons with the Gamecocks.
