Schedule and Results

SEATTLE –

Husky track fans never have to wait long during the summer months for the next big competition, as several of UW’s standouts have kept training and testing themselves more than  a month after NCAA Outdoors wrapped up the official season. This week brings about the FISU World University Games, in the Rhine-Ruhr area of Germany, where seven current or former Husky women’s distance runners are representing their countries.

Mia Cochran (USA), Julia David-Smith (France), Chloe Foerster (USA), Maggie Liebich (USA), Saskia Lloyd (Australia), Amina Maatoug (Netherlands), and Sophie O’Sullivan (Ireland) are all on hand for the international competition, held every other year for university athletes.

Chloe Foerster opened up in the 800-meters on Tuesday, taking second in her first round heat in a time of 2:02.84 to easily move on to Wednesday’s semifinals.

Sophie O’Sullivan will run the 1,500-meters for Ireland, her first competition since winning the NCAA Outdoor title in her final race as a Dawg on June 14. The women’s 1,500m first round comes on Friday.

Maatoug and Liebich will also be in the 1,500m field for the Netherlands and the U.S., respectively, after both ran big PRs in Italy earlier this month. Maatoug went 4:05 and Liebich ran a 4:08.

Cochran and David-Smith will both be racing the 5,000-meters, which comes on Saturday. David-Smith just raced a 5k in Norway last weekend, taking fourth overall at the European U23 Championships.

Lloyd raced the 10,000-meters on the first day of competition on Monday, placing 21st overall in 35:06.30.
