BERGEN (NOR, Jul 20): Men’s 4x400m relay team of Spain (García, González, Fernandez, Pozo) also set a new U23 European record of 3:02.02, winning ahead of France (3:02.60) and Germany (3:02.83). Eugene Diamond League 1 mile winner Niels Laros earned his second gold when winning the 800m in 1:44.36 over Great Britain’s Justin Davies (1:44.97) and Giovanni Lazzaro of Italy (1:44.98).
All three medallists in the high jump broke their lifetime bests, Italy’s Matteo Sioli won with 230 from Mikolaj Szczesny of Poland (226) and Sweden’s Melwin Lycke Holm (224). Maciej Megier of Poland set a new championship record and PB of 8:20.17 to win the 3000m steeplechase over Stefan Nillessen of Netherlands (8:20.48 U23NR) and Portugal’s Lourenço Rodrigues (8:21.99 U23NR). Pablo Delgado of Spain was the best in the triple jump with 16.55 (0.8) PB ahead of Bulgaria’s Lâchezar Vâlchev 16.48 (1.8) PB and Federico Lorenzo Bruno of Italy 16.47w (2.3).
Iosif Kesidis from Cyprus won the hammer throw with 74.87 U23NR from Greek throwers Georgios Papanastasiou (72.98) and Ioannis Korakidis (72.51), while qualification winner Angelos Mantzouranis was NM. Mazlum Demir of Türkiye topped the 10,000m race walk in 39:45.84 PB over Italy’s Emiliano Brigante (39:49.64) and Frederick Weigel of Germany (40:00.90 PB), and France (Rebierre, Kabengele Kabala, Badru, Erius) won the 4x100m relay in 38.43 CR/U23NR ahead of Germany (38.80), Spain (38.86 U23NR) and Slovenia (38.99 senior NR).
