Four Gamecocks to Compete at USATF Outdoor Championships – University of South Carolina Athletics

EUGENE, Ore. (July 29, 2025) – Summer competition continues for the sport of track & field as next on the docket are the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The four-day meet will begin on Thursday, July 31 and conclude on Sunday, Aug. 3.

Four Gamecocks are set to compete in the USATF Outdoor Championships, including three current student-athletes. Two-time NCAA Division I champion JaMeesia Ford will be joined by Gamecock newcomers and transfers, Alexis Brown and Akala Garrett. Josh Awotunde represents the Gamecock alumni in the field in Oregon.

Ford and Brown will kick things off with the opening round of the 100m sprints on Thursday, July 31 at 6:47 p.m. (ET). Ford finished as the 2025 NCAA Division I runner-up in the women’s 100m, while Brown captured the NCAA Division II 100m title at Lenoir-Rhyne this season. The duo each won their respective NCAA division championships in the 200m and will be put to the test with the USATF 200m first round on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 2:48 p.m. (ET).

Akala Garrett recently transferred to Columbia by way of University of Texas. The All-American hurdler finished runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles at this year’s NCAA Outdoor Championship. Garrett will open her USATF Championship schedule on Friday, Aug. 1 with the opening round of the 400mH at 6:31 p.m. (ET).

Josh Awotunde is the lone male representing the Gamecocks this week at the USATF Outdoor Championship. The four-time All-American and 2018 NCAA Outdoor silver medalist will take part in the men’s shot put on Sunday, Aug. 3 at 4:40 p.m. (ET).
