California track & field will have three representatives at this week’s USA Track & Field (USATF) Outdoor & Para National Championships, as current Golden Bear Johnny Goode and alumni Hakim McMorris, Asha Fletcher Claire Yerby are set to appear at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, in hopes of earning spots at the upcoming World Athletics Championships.

The meet will last Thursday-Sunday. All days will be streamed on USATF.TV, while Friday’s and Saturday’s contests can also be viewed on NBC and Peacock. Live results will be posted on usatf.org. To win an automatic bid to the World Championships, held this year in Tokyo from Sept. 13-21, athletes must finish in the top three in their respective events at the USATF Championships while having reached the World Athletics qualifying standard that season.

Goode, who will race in the men’s 400m, transferred to Cal from the College of San Mateo for the 2025 season and posted an incredible breakout campaign, setting three school records as an individual (outdoor 400m, indoor and outdoor 400m) and another with the indoor 4x400m relay. His outdoor 400m personal best of 45.02, set at the ACC Outdoor Championships, shattered a 40-year-old program mark. This will be Goode’s second appearance in Eugene this summer, the first being an appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.

McMorris, a 2023 graduate who competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both 2022 and 23 and earned All-America recognition at the 2023 Indoor Championships, will be continuing his successful professional career with an appearance in the decathlon. He holds a personal-best total of 8258 points, which he reached at the Mt. SAC Relays in April, and is the fourth-best mark of the season among the meet’s 16-man field. The decathlon begins Thursday at 10:30 a.m. PT.

Yerby, who earned her bachelor’s degree from Cal in 2024 and earned All-America honors as a graduate transfer at Washington, will compete in the women’s 1500m. She posted a personal-best time of 4:07.78 in the event at the Portland Track Festival in June, then recorded a PR of 2:02.25…
