CLEMSON, S.C. – Five Clemson track and field athletes represented their countries at the Pan Am U23 (Junior Pan American) Games in Paraguay from Monday, August 18 through Friday, August 22. Shanque Williams, Oneka Wilson, Kimeka Smith and Briana Campbell all represented Team Jamaica while incoming transfer Divine Aniamaka competed for Team Canada.
On Friday, Williams helped Jamaica’s women’s 4x400m relay team earn silver medal, running the first leg in 52.6 seconds. She also qualified for the women’s 400m semifinal that took place on Tuesday.
Wilson and Campbell each qualified for the women’s 100m hurdles finals on Tuesday. To advance, Wilson won the second semifinals heat with a time of 13.27 seconds and Campbell placed second in the first semifinals heat (13.37 seconds).
Kimeka Smith finished fifth in the women’s shot put finals on Thursday with a best throw of 14.40m / 47’2.9”, which she earned on her second attempt. Her other four throws that counted were 13.73m / 45’0.5”, 14.19m / 46’6.6”, 14.08m / 46’2.3” and 14.14m / 46’4.6” in that order.
Incoming transfer Divine Aniamaka competed in the men’s triple jump where he placed fifth with a distance of 16.27m / 53’4.5” (third jump). His jump sequence went as the following: 15.84m / 51’11.6”, 15.85m / 52’0”, 16.27m / 53’4.5”, 16.11m / 52’10.2”, 16.04m / 52’7.4”, 15.70m / 51’6.1”. Aniamaka previously attended Milwaukee where he currently owns the school’s triple jump record and accumulated 12 top-two triple jump finishes, claiming champion at nine of those meets throughout his collegiate career. His older brother Praise, who is a part of Purdue’s track and field program, also competed in the triple jump at the Pan Am U23 (Junior Pan American) Games.
