PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State Cougar Cross Country team will open its season with the 2025 WSU Alumni Open Friday, August 29 at Colfax Golf Club. The women’s 4-kilometer race will begin at 5 p.m. and the men’s 6-kilometer race will start at approximately 5:45 p.m..
The Cougars’ 2025 squads picked up several preseason honors, including a top-25 national ranking for the WSU men’s team and a top-5 regional ranking for the women’s team.
WSU’s distance teams had five men and two women named to the 2025 West Coast Conference Preseason Team including returnees Evans Kurui and Josphat Meli, along with sophomore standouts Zenah Cheptoo and Caroline Jepkorir.
Additionally, Texas Tech transfers Solomon Kipchoge and Vincent Koech were both named to the preseason team and true freshman Rogers Chelal.
The Cougars compete in five regular-season meets this fall season, including the WSU Alumni Open and upcoming Cougar Classic, Friday, September 12, in Colfax. The 2025 WCC Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Gonzaga University in Spokane, Saturday, November 1.
