2024 Boys Champion – EO Smith, Runner-up – Hall
2024 Girls Champion – Glastonbury, Runner-up – Hall
Location: Wickham Park, Manchester
Boys Preview
This could be a real barn burner between top returner and Class M champion Brian Smith of Rocky Hill, plus greatly improved Brahm Bulow of Avon and Hall’s Jonah Schulman. Throw in E.O. Smith’s Alex Cook and this could be anyone’s race to claim.
Avon has the most returners and will be led by Bulow who improved to take 5th in the Outdoor State Open 3200m race in 9:19. Glastonbury has a solid pack and should have Crawford Cauthen returning who was injured last year and only finished 29th at the conference meet but was top 10 as a sophomore. EO Smith is the defending champion led by Alex Cook who is one of the top returners and Gabe White who transferred from Windham Tech. Never count out Hall who was second the past two years to E.O. Smith and have Schulman who took 6th in the outdoor 3200m State Open.
Girls Preview
Lauren Parrett, a rising sophomore is the top returner from last year’s CCC race and the defending State Open 3200m champion during indoor track. She comes in as the favorite, but don’t overlook Windsor’s Maya Donzella who was consistently under 5:10 for the 1600m and went under 5 minutes to win the CCC outdoor title and defeated Parrett in the process. Sofia Holovatska of South Windsor was also a sub 5:10 1600m runner and was 5th at CCCs last fall and 13th at the State Open. She should be in the lead pack along with Alexa Nunez of Wethersfield and Glastonbury’s Abigail Mathew. All five were top 25 at the Open last year.
Glastonbury has won the past four conference titles and they look to have the pieces to go for a 5th straight. Even though they lost All American Brooke Strauss, they have six returners from last year’s State Open championship team plus their team that easily won the CCC JV race. They will be led by Parrett and Mathew and sophomore Carolyn Kamp who didn’t run cross country last year but was part of their All New England 4x800m and got down to 5:11 for 1600m. The Guardians will be pushed again by Hall, but without talent for a low stick the Titan pack will need to hold off solid teams from Windsor, South Windsor and Farmington in the chase for the title or runner-up spot.
