This weekend 16 young athletes head for Wales to compete in the British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships and Junior Home International.
The juniors will face windy conditions as they negotiate the hills behind Canolfan y Fron,
U17s will set off first and race 6.23km with 257m ascent/descent and the U20s race is 6.84km with 300m ascent/descent. Both races are over three climbs. The terrain is good, climbing through a slate quarry and descending on some very fast tracks.
In the last three editions of the JHI, Scotland U20 men have won team gold and will again be hoping for success.
Our U20 women’s team is strong with three competitors selected for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships at the end of the month in Spain.
This is the first Home Nations competition for most of the U17 runners, who packed really well in the trials and should also finish strongly in the team competition.
Good luck on Saturday to those athletes selected and to their families, coaches and to the clubs involved in their development over many years.
