Gamecocks Begin Outdoor Season with Weems Baskin Invitational – University of South Carolina Athletics

COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 21, 2025) – Just one week following the NCAA Indoor Championship, South Carolina Track & Field is immediately back in action with its first outdoor meet of the season. The Gamecocks are set to host the Weems Baskin Invitational on Saturday at Sheila & Morris Cregger Track. In addition, Saturday will also serve as Senior Day for the Gamecocks.

Know Before You Go
Sheila and Morris Cregger Track does have a CLEAR BAG POLICY that is in effect. Learn everything you need to know about the Clear Bag Policy by clicking here. There is also a WATER BOTTLE POLICY for all patrons and that is: one clear, plastic disposable water bottle is permitted. No hard, non-clear refillable bottles are allowed inside the facility.

Meet Information
The 2025 Weems Baskin Invitational features 15 total teams, including 10 teams from the Palmetto State. The division I teams alongside South Carolina are: Charleston Southern, The Citadel, College of Charleston, Coppin State, Gardner-Webb, Maryland-Eastern Shore and South Carolina State. The meet will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw and the men’s javelin throw. The first track event will be at noon with the women’s 4x100m relay. As usual, the event will conclude with the 4x400m relays with the men running first at 5:10 p.m. and the women immediately following at 5:20 p.m.

Thank you Seniors!
Prior to the running events on Saturday, the Gamecocks will be honoring the 19 seniors for this year’s class at 11 a.m. The seniors are (alphabetically): Rogerio Amaral, Jalen Clark, Noah Contreras, Brooke Donoghue, Channing Ferguson, Anthony Greenhow, Aidan Hatton, Jayla Jamison, Prescott Jefferson, CJ Licata, Ethan Mathis, Imani Rivas, Cailyn Scharneck, Emma Stone, Dylan Targgart, Rachel Valentine, Lily Weeks, Ally Wilson and Ella Zeigler.

Long Overdue
On Thursday afternoon, long-time Gamecock Throws Coach Mike Sergent was named USTFCCCA Southeast Region Men’s Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year. This was the first honor in Sergent’s career as he coached a pair of shot put throwers to First Team All-American honors after finishing second and fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championship.
