The Gotzis Meeting, aka The HypoMeeting celebrated year fifty this past weekend. World Champions, Olympic champions and the iconic figures in the disciplines of multi-events were all in Austria for this historic event.
On the men’s side, Sander Skotheim, World and European Indoor champ, European silver, decathlon, took Gotzsis with a score of 8,909 points with USA’s Kyle Garland scoring 8,626. Simon EHammer scored 8,575 for third and 2019 World Champ and 2022 European champ Niklas Kaul took third as well, as EHammer and Kaul battled to a standstill! Leo Neugebaur, Olympic silver medalist, German record holder in the decathlon, and indoor heptathlon, was fifth in 8,555.
In the heptathlon, we saw history! Anna Hall scored 7,032, equalling the number two performance, shared with Swedish superstar Karolina Kluft! Now, Anna Hall has one athlete ahead of her on the scoring tables: the greatest athlete of all times, Jackie Joyner-Kersee! Anna Hall’s performances: 13.19 for the hurdles, 1.95m for the high jump, 14.86m for the shot put, 23.37 for the 200 meters. On day 2, Anna leaped 6.44m for the long jump, 46.16m for the javelin throw and finally, a scary 2:01.23 for the 800 meters.
