Seven Gamecocks Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors – University of South Carolina Athletics

COLUMBIA, S.C. (June 24, 2025) – Seven members of the Gamecock Track & Field squad were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team on Tuesday, June 24. Rogerio Amaral, Dylan Targgart and David Warmington earned the recognition for the men’s team. Meanwhile, Sylvia Chelangat, Teresa Cherotich, Cheyla Scott and Hannah Togami represented the women’s track & field squad. The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track, in the field, and in the classroom.

Amaral is making his second appearance on the Academic All-District Team, earning the honors in 2023 as well. The Portugal native earned a spot on the Indoor All-SEC Third Team for finishing bronze in the men’s DMR at the SEC Indoor Championship. This outdoor season, Amaral put together the fastest outdoor 10K race in program history, crossing the finish line in 28:23.41. The veteran distance runner finished 26th at the NCAA East Regional meet in the 10K, closing his season with a time of 29:46.84.

Targgart has now been recognized on the Academic All-District team for the third consecutive year, as he was named the 2024 CSC Academic All-American Team Member of the Year. Targgart earned a pair of First Team All-American honors in the shot put this season, finishing fourth overall at the NCAA Indoor Championship and seventh overall at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. The Michigan native also finished fourth at both the SEC Indoor Championship and SEC Outdoor Championship in the men’s shot put.

Warmington is making his debut on the CSC Academic All-District Team. The 110-meter hurdler scored at this year’s SEC Outdoor Championship, finishing eighth overall, running 13.78. He advanced to the NCAA East Regional where he placed 21st overall after clocking 13.86.

This is the second consecutive Academic All-District appearance for Chelangat. This season, Chelangat was named Second Team All-American at the NCAA Indoor Championship in the women’s 4x400m relay. She was also part of the 4x400m relay and the DMR that finished runner-up at the SEC Indoor Championship. Chelangat played a pivotal part in the fastest indoor DMR team ever in program history, running 10:55.41. She aided in the 4x400m relay squad advancing all the way to the NCAA Outdoor Championship during her outdoor campaign.
