GBR 3:26.52 U23ER, Vanninen 6563 CR/NR
BERGEN (NOR, Jul 20): Great Britain (Grieve, Newnham, Malik, John) dominated the 4x400m relay on the final day of the European U23 Championships in a new U23 European record of 3:26.52 ahead of Spain (3:28.06) and France (3:28.37), all teams with U23 NR. Saga Vanninen set a new championship record and (senior) national record for Finland in the heptathlon with 6563 points (13.25/1.1 PB – 180 – 15.09 – 24.45/-1.0 / 649/-0.3 – 43.74 – 2:11.00 PB) over Abigail Pawlett of Great Britain (6320 PB) and Germany’s Serina Riedel (6183).
Ramona Elena Verman of Romania leaped to 660 (0.0) PB to win the long jump from Germany’s Samira Attermeyer 658 (-0.7) PB and Ida Andre Breigan 658 (0.1), and Viktorie Ondrová of Czechia cleared 445 PB in the pole vault, winning ahead of Lithuania’s Rugilė Miklyčiutė (U23NR) and Chiara Sistermann of Germany (=PB), tie for a second with 435.
1500m title for Türkiye by Dilek Koçak in 4:08.79 over Adèle Gay of France (4:08.89) and Ireland’s Eimear Maher (4:09.54). Two more titles for Spain by Maria Forero in the 5000m in 15:43.44 ahead of Vanessa Mikitenko from Germany (15:51.97) and Ireland’s Anika Thompson (15:56.80), and by Ines Lopez in the discus with 58.20 U23NR over Benedetta Benedetti of Italy (56.98 PB) and Germany’s Milina Wepiwé (56.82). Great Britain (Wedderburn-Goodison, Mensah, Bell, Eduan) also clearly won the 4x100m relay in 42.92 CR ahead of Switzerland (43.39 U23NR) and Germany (43.75).
