MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 13 Wisconsin women’s cross country team took home a sixth-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational on Friday morning at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
The Badgers scored 125 points to finish one point behind No. 25 Ohio State in the meet that featured six of the top-30 teams in the country.
Redshirt junior Shea Ruhly led UW at the meet, covering the 6k course is 20 minutes, 59.1 seconds for fifth place. Nearly breaking her personal best.
Also helping lead the Badgers to a top ten finish, senior Samantha Stieve, who finished in 15th place running the course in 21:15.6, and graduate student Lucinda Crouch who covered the course in 21:25.3, taking 23rd place.
Three other Badgers finished within seconds of each other as Victoria Heiligenthal, Leane Willemse, and Vivian Hacker placed 39th, 43rd and 48th, respectively.

“Our focus for September is training. When you are training hard, switching gears to racing can be a challenge and not all athletes respond the same way. It’s early in the season to look too deep into today’s result. We had some men and women switch gears and race well today.
“It’s important that we trust the process and keep things in perspective right now and stay focused on our goals.”

The Badgers will travel to Chicago, Illinois, for the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Sept. 30. The women’s race will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Montrose Harbor.
