WOMEN’S 6K RECAP
“[Head Women’s Cross Country Coach] Laura (Harmon) has done an amazing job with the women’s team. They were incredible today even without two of our top runners on the women’s side,” said Phipps.
Alaina Stone-Boggs led the way for the WSU women’s cross country team, as the junior finished the 6K course with a personal best time of 20:07.3 and a fifth-place finish. Stone-Boggs shattered her previous best by more than 25 seconds. Stone Boggs ran average mile time of 5:24.
Neema Kimtai maintained her pace during the entire race cruising into 15th–place at 20:42.6. Kimtai averaged 5:34 minute mile time.
“This team is going to be very good by the end of the year. (Alaina Stone-Boggs), Caroline (Jerotich) and Neema (Kimtai) were so tough today. Pietra (Da Silva) and Samantha (Boyle) rallied over the last part of the race, and we just missed finishing second. This women’s team is going to surprise some people this year,” said Phipps.
Sophomore Brian Barsaiya continued his strong start to the season as he sprinted to the podium with a third-place finish. Barsaiya helped set the pace for the Cougar running 23:46.0. Barsaiya posted his second straight top three finish, as he collected a mile time of 4:47.
