SAVOY, Ill. – The Illinois men’s and women’s cross country teams completed their first meet of the 2025 season, the Fighting Illini Invitational, on Friday (Aug. 29) from the Orange and Blue Golf Course. The men’s team placed second with 61 points and the women placed third with 74 points.
Freshman Nora Wollen led the way for the Orange and Blue capturing the silver medal in the 4k on a time of 13:18.90. Junior Avril Andre finished right behind Wollen with the bronze medal clocking in at 13:26.50. Freshman Nicole Poglitsch rounded out the Illini women’s top-3 finishers in 23rd place (14:20.70), graduate student Lina Maatouk clocked a 14:25.90 to finish just inside the top-25 in 24th place.
On the men’s side graduate student Joshua Daggett was the top finisher for Illinois in fifth place on a new personal-best 6k time of 17:41.90. Two sophomores battled each other down the home stretch to complete the men’s top-3 finishers; Trey Sato placed seventh (17:49.10) while Adam Patel was shortly behind in eighth (17:49.90). Senior Brady Masters finishing in 16th place (18:16.70) and sophomore Jackson Barrett placed 26th (18:30.50).

The Fighting Illini distance crews are off for the whole month of September before they return to action on Friday (Oct. 3) for the Joe Piane Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
