BOSTON – A pair of Tennessee distance runners etched their names into the program record book Saturday afternoon at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted by Boston University. Junior Yaseen Abdalla took down the men’s indoor 3,000-meter school record with a time of 7:55.53, while graduate student Jasmine Fehr placed herself seventh on the Lady Vol all-time top-10 list in the women’s indoor 5,000-meter run at 16:12.97.
Making his Tennessee debut on the track and coming off an All-American cross country season for the Vols this fall, Abdalla placed sixth in an elite field and was the third-fastest collegian at the meet. His time topped the previous program standard of 7:59.15 set by Zach Long in 2018.
A Lady Vol graduate from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Fehr competed in her first indoor meet since January 2020 and her second career 5k on Saturday. She finished second in her heat after a close battle with Northern Colorado’s Regina Mpigachair (16:12.86).
With Saturday’s races wrapping up the opening weekend, the Tennessee indoor track & field campaign continues after the holiday break with a trip to Clemson, South Carolina. The Vols and Lady Vols will suit up for the Clemson Invitational Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13-14.
