Wills Collects Triple Jump All-America Honors

EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Safin Wills collected All-America accolades in the triple jump as the Purdue track & field team continued competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Wills was 15th overall in the triple jump as the first-year Boilermaker earned his best career NCAA finish and third All-America honor. It is the second Second Team All-America award for the Boilermakers in as many days after junior Isaiah Martin was ninth in the decathlon on Thursday.

In his second event of the championships, Wills’ best mark was a jump of 15.86 meters. He fouled his first attempt and notched a mark of 15.63m on his third and final jump. The 15.86m is Wills’ second-best wind-legal jump and his third-best overall in his career.

To finish 15th overall, Wills was named a Second Team All-American. That joins two Honorable Mention All-America honors, in the long jump on Wednesday with a 20th-place finish and in the triple jump in 2021, when he placed 22nd while at Texas Tech.

On Thursday, junior Martin was ninth in the decathlon to earn Second Team All-America accolades with a personal-best- and school-record-tying 7,708 points. It was Martin’s fifth career All-America award. Additionally, four Boilermakers were bestowed with five total Honorable Mention All-America honors.

Along with Wills in the long jump on Wednesday, senior Kelly Cook was 18th in the hammer throw and the men’s 4×100 relay finished 21st overall. All six Boilermakers collected Honorable Mention All-America distinction.

Fifteen Boilermakers are competing in nine events at the four-day national championships. The meet concludes on Saturday, June 11, with sophomore Kaia Harris in the discus at 5:05 p.m. ET / 2:05 p.m. PT.
