WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sophomore Amina Maatoug kept her stellar indoor campaign going as she took down her second individual and third overall school record of the year, headlining the final day of competition at the JDL Camel City Invite for Duke track and field.
After shattering the program record in the women’s 3,000m to open the indoor season and helping the women’s distance medley relay squad dismantle the 10-year-old school record in the DMR last weekend, Maatoug delivered another outstanding performance on Saturday in the women’s elite mile. The Leiden, Netherlands product made crafty moves at the beginning of the race before positioning herself among the top two – a spot she would hold through the remainder of the race.
Maatoug clocked a final time of 4:32.54 – No. 2 in the NCAA – to finish as runner up, breaking the Camel City Invite collegiate record in the event while also taking down the previous 12-year-old Duke record set by Kate Van Buskirk in 2011 in the process.
Dalia Frias also competed in the women’s elite mile run, finishing in 4:47.78. The Blue Devils also featured three entries across the men’s and women’s 3,000m run. On the women’s side, Kelli Wilson completed her race in 10:00.76 while the men’s race saw Connor Wells and Will Dixon finish in 8:18.36 and 8:30.14, respectively.
